UEFA Champions League Festival – Floating 3G Pitch
Floating 3G Pitch
We get plenty of enquiries to build artificial football pitches as it is a big part of what we do. However “can you help build one that’s going to float in Cardiff Bay, be used by some of the world’s greatest football players and stand up to a lot of media attention” was a challenge that James Rees – Sales Director for Inscapes accepted.
The UEFA Champions League festival required a floating 3G pitch in Cardiff Bay, June 2017.The 3G pitch hosted the “Ultimate Champions” match with Ryan Giggs and a host of other World football legends, it was the centre piece to the build up to the Champions League Final. According to various media sources, the pitch hosted various activity including community matches, walking football, refugee teams, a deaf football friendly international, learning disability and youth age groups matches (BBC, Wales Online, UEFA). The 3G pitch was a centre piece in the celebrations with a number of high profile events taking place on it throughout the festival, it was a great attraction to the city with over 200,000 visitors over 4 days.
Inscapes and Southwest Greens UK were tasked with installing the playing surface including a shock pad that would meet the standards required by the football teams. Both teams from the inscapes sports group were involved and achieved great results in a short space of time.
The 3G pitch was heavily used throughout the 4 days with it being used from 8:30am – 11:30pm one day. The festival was a huge success for the city and left a lasting impression on everyone that visited and played on the pitch.
James Rees – Sales Director at Inscapes said “We were able to call on in-house resources from both Inscapes Sports and SouthWest Greens UK to get the project delivered. Warren’s team at SouthWest Greens UK are used to working in unusual locations, building golf greens around the UK and Europe and Inscapes ability to achieve installations to tight deadlines allowed us to achieve a successful outcome”
